Telos and AirDefense Partner on U.S. Army Contract for Wireless Intrusion Detection and Prevention
ASHBURN, VA, Atlanta, GA - February 6, 2007 -- Telos® Corporation, a leading provider of security solutions to the federal government, has won an expansive contract with the U.S. Army to install AirDefense’s wireless intrusion detection/prevention system (WIDS/WIPS) at 20 North American installations.
Under the terms of this contract, Telos will deliver more than 1500 AirDefense sensors on a turnkey basis, including site surveys and project reports for each of the 20 locations as well as installation, testing and onsite training. The AirDefense system will protect the Army’s local area networks in addition to its wireless networks from unauthorized access. AirDefense will also prevent potential vulnerabilities by alerting managers of open connections.
The contract expands work already done by the Army to install wireless intrusion and detection at 16 other sites in the continental United States. This followed the June 2006 release of a supplemental Department of Defense (DoD) policy on wireless security that called for around-the-clock wireless intrusion and detection. The AirDefense WIDS/WIPS solution meets the requirements of the new policy, which includes having National Information Assurance Partnership’s (NIAP) stringent Common Criteria certification. The AirDefense solution also appears on the Army’s Information Assurance Approved Products List (IAAPL), a requirement of the contract.
Telos has helped military agencies lay the groundwork for secure wireless networks in compliance with leading standards such as DoD 8100.2 and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2. Telos was an original member of the DoD’s wireless policy working group and provided guidance on Air Force wireless policy and the certification and accreditation of their wireless systems. In addition, Telos assisted the Air Force and the Navy in developing and validating their standard secure wireless architecture.
“Telos is committed to helping our armed forces achieve consistent success in preventing network violations from friendly and unfriendly potential intruders,” said John B. Wood, Telos chairman and CEO. “We’re pleased to make this announcement in partnership with AirDefense and look forward to working with them and with the Army on their wireless network security.”
AirDefense provides a complete suite of solutions that secure wireless networks and protect the extended mobile enterprise against all threats and attacks. The Army joins other military branches within the DoD in addition to other agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, Department of Energy and Department of Veterans Affairs already relying on AirDefense’s enterprise suite of intrusion detection/ prevention products.
“The integrity of our Armed Forces’ communication networks is among our nation’s highest priorities,” said Mike Potts, president and CEO of AirDefense. “We’re excited about this opportunity to work with Telos in extending our unique wireless intrusion detection and prevention capabilities to additional bases of the United States Army.”
