AirDefense Guard 3.0 Delivers the Ultimate Network Intelligence for Wireless LAN Intrusion Detection, Operational Support
& Policy Monitoring

AirDefense Guard 3.0 Builds Upon Security & Network Support with LEAP & 802.1x Recognition, IP Address Identification & Hierarchical Policy Manager

ATLANTA, Ga. - March 10, 2003 - AirDefense Inc. today launched its AirDefense Guard 3.0 solution to provide the highest level of wireless LAN security and operational support with 24x7 monitoring of the airwaves that gives IT and security managers the network intelligence required to secure their wireless LANs and maximize the network's performance.

As part of the AirDefense product family, AirDefense Guard 3.0 is based on the patent-pending technology that incorporates distributed sensors and server appliances. The remote sensors are deployed near 802.11 access points to monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with the server appliance, which analyzes the traffic in real time to identify rogue WLANs, detect intruders and attacks, enforce network security policies, deflect intruders from the network and monitor the health of the wireless LAN.

Enhanced product features in AirDefense Guard 3.0 include:

  • Cisco LEAP and 802.1x recognition
  • IP address identification
  • Hierarchical policy manager to designate, apply and enforce multiple policies throughout a single network
  • Augmented attack and threat detection technologies
  • Stateful icons to easily recognize and track devices throughout the system
  • Designated watch and ignore lists of stations and access points
  • Roaming policies
  • Dozens of new reports on security, network performance and device inventory.

"Encryption and authentication provide the base of security for 802.11 wireless LANs, but 24x7 monitoring of the airwaves is an essential element of security to identify all rogue WLANs, thwart intruders and attacks, enforce network security policies and monitor the health of a wireless LAN," said Richard Stiennon, a Gartner security research director.

Designed to secure and provide operational support for enterprise wireless LANs, AirDefense Guard 3.0 is a scalable system that can be deployed to secure wireless LANs in a single office environment, a corporate campus or around the globe. "AirDefense Guard 3.0 builds upon the wireless LAN security for which AirDefense is known and adds robust policy monitoring and traffic analysis to become an essential operational support solution for enterprise wireless LANs," said Jay Chaudhry, CEO of AirDefense. "With AirDefense Guard 3.0, dozens of Blue Chip companies and top government agencies now protect their wireless LANs with real-time monitoring."

AirDefense launched the industry's first intrusion detection system for 802.11 wireless LANs in June 2002. AirDefense provides the ultimate security for wireless LANs with its patent-pending technology for stateful monitoring and intrusion protection. AirDefense's Multi-Dimensional Detection Engine analyzes threats to identify security breaches based on: Signature analysis, policy compliance, protocol assessment and statistically anomalous behavior. AirDefense customers include Blue Chip enterprises, government agencies and wireless LAN managed service providers.
