50 Government Organizations Turn To AirDefense
For 24X7 Wireless Security Monitoring

Thousands of Government WLANs Secured with AirDefense

Atlanta - August 25, 2004 - AirDefense, the market-leader in 24x7 wireless security monitoring, today announced a company milestone in the federal marketplace. Fifty government organizations, collectively running thousands of wireless LANs, have turned to AirDefense to integrate wireless security into their infrastructure for rogue detection, encryption authorization and operations monitoring.

"The upswing in the concern for wireless security is tremendous," said retired Air Force Brigadier General Rick Larned. "During my service with the Air Force, I supported the Department of Defense and the intelligence community in a variety of space and information warfare activities. Now that I am advising companies in these areas, I make it a point to recommend a wireless policy and wireless security protection such as AirDefense offers. Corporate strategies for monitoring wireless networks are absolutely essential today to protect sensitive data from being broadcast to the wrong person."

In April 2004 the Department of Defense issued Directive 8100.2, establishing policy and assigning responsibilities for the use of commercial wireless devices, services, and technologies in the DoD Global Information Grid. Directive 8100.2 is the first in a series of government initiatives to secure the nation from the inherent risks of wireless. The Inspector General of the Office of Compliance also issued a report encouraging the Department of Homeland Security to increase its wireless security efforts.

"Thousands of wireless LANs, in both classified and unclassified settings, are being secured by AirDefense making it clear that many government organizations view wireless security as a priority," said Anil Khatod, president and CEO of AirDefense. "The Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security have taken it one step further by requiring compliance with wireless security directives. Other government organizations and civilian organizations will follow suit."

AirDefense Enterprise is the only system with customized reporting tailored to comply with the Department of Defense directive. AirDefense allows system administrators to view all potential vulnerabilities at a glance, including monitoring of VPNs, three-factor authentication and encryption methods. Based on patent-pending technology that incorporates distributed sensors with a server appliance, the AirDefense remote sensors monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with the central server. The central server then correlates and analyzes the data to provide security alerts and actionable decision support information for rogue detection, policy enforcement, intrusion protection and health monitoring of the wireless LAN.
AirDefense will be exhibiting its market-leading technology at three military shows in August and September. These include the Navy Wireless Summit which runs August 17-19 in San Diego, California, the Air Force Information Technology Conference which runs August 29-September 2 in Montgomery, Alabama and the Army DOIM Conference from August 31-September 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
