AirDefense Bolsters Wireless LAN Security
with Advanced Intrusion Detection, Policy Management, SNMP-Based
Integration & Remote Management
Remote Sensors Combine with State
Analysis Engine & Multi-Dimensional Intrusion Detection Technology
to Defend 802.11 Wireless LANs
ATLANTA - Nov. 18, 2002 AirDefense Inc. has taken
wireless LAN security to a new level with the launch of AirDefense
2.0, a powerful combination of intrusion detection and stateful
monitoring of 802.11 wireless LANs that now includes new attack
signatures, policy management, SNMP-based integration and remote
management.
The AirDefense solution consists of distributed sensors and server
appliances. The remote sensors sit near 802.11 access points to
monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with
the server appliance, which analyzes the traffic in real time
to discover wireless LAN vulnerabilities, enforce security policies,
and detect and respond to intruders.
Enhanced product features in AirDefense 2.0 include:
 |
Advanced intrusion detection in areas such as protocol analysis,
attack signatures and vendor fingerprints. |
 |
Correlation and consolidation of network alerts and alarms
to provide more accurate detection and reduce false positives. |
 |
An enhanced wireless LAN policy manager for security and
network performance to define, monitor and enforce policies
specific to the wireless LAN. |
 |
SNMP-based integration with leading network management solutions,
such as HP OpenView, Tivoli and NetCool. |
 |
Remote management to access information and configure network
thresholds and distributed sensors. |
"To truly secure wireless LANs, enterprises must monitor
their airwaves to detect intruders and threats that can come from
unscrupulous hackers and well-meaning employees," said Richard
Stiennon, a Gartner security research director. "While attacks
on wireless LANs are becoming more sophisticated, enterprises
face increasing vulnerabilities from rogue access points and un-enforced
network policies. Monitoring the airwaves of a wireless LAN is
an essential element of security that should also include advanced
encryption and authentication."
Designed to secure enterprise wireless LANs, AirDefense is a
scaleable security system that can be deployed to secure wireless
LANs in a single office environment, a corporate campus or around
the globe.
"With remote sensors monitoring all wireless LAN traffic,
enterprises can extend effective intrusion detection throughout
a wireless LAN as part as a comprehensive approach to security,"
said Jay Chaudhry, CEO of AirDefense. "A wired side approach
to wireless security with polling and traditional IDS cannot detect
identity theft, MAC spoofing of access points, unauthorized associations
or 'soft access points' that are actually laptops that act as
fully functioning access points. Only AirDefense provides the
highest level of wireless LAN security through 24x7, stateful
monitoring."
AirDefense launched the industry's first intrusion detection
system for 802.11 wireless LANs in June 2002. AirDefense provides
the ultimate security for wireless LANs with its patent-pending
technology for stateful monitoring and intrusion protection. AirDefense's
Multi-Dimensional Detection Engine analyzes threats to identify
security breaches based on: Signature analysis, policy compliance,
protocol assessment and statistically anomalous behavior. AirDefense
customers include Blue Chip enterprises, government agencies,
and wireless LAN managed service providers.
